We are pleased to report a successful year for the University Budget Advisory Committee’s (UBAC) SSU Commitment process. This year’s work was especially important as the University faced challenging funding decisions that required careful consideration of competing priorities and meaningful engagement across campus constituencies. These conversations are never easy, and we are grateful to the staff, faculty, and student members who demonstrated a true spirit of shared governance by thoughtfully examining complex budget scenarios, weighing differing perspectives, and making recommendations in support of the broader good of our campus community and SSU’s mission.
We write with a final update on recent developments related to the UBAC’s discretionary funding recommendations connected to SSU Commitment legislative funding. Over the past several months, we have been able to move forward with allocating funds to a number of strategic initiatives identified through the UBAC process conducted in the fall.
Some recommendations relied on the agreement and participation of specific members of the campus community. In cases where participation could not be secured, funds became available for reallocation. UBAC subsequently recommended reallocating these funds by proceeding down its previously ranked list of proposals to ensure continued support for high-priority initiatives, and President Spagna has approved this approach.
An updated list of recommendations is available in the SSU Commitment Discretionary Funding Recommendations – Allocations Update, posted on the UBAC website: https://budget.sonoma.edu/university-budget-advisory-committee
Those interested in contributing to particular initiatives may indicate their interest through their committee representatives. The timeline for submitting additional details has been extended to September 18, 2026. To support timely processing, requests will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
We appreciate the continued engagement of our campus community and will share further updates as this work progresses.
