Sexual Assault Awareness Month Information & Upcoming Opportunities from OPHD's Center for Restorative Practices

Each April, we take time as a campus to recognize Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) and reiterate our commitment to maintaining a learning, living and working environment free from discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and sexual misconduct.  We invite you to participate in the following events during SAAM, which were planned and are being hosted by a number of groups throughout campus, including the Mental Health Student Ambassadors, the OPHD Student Ambassadors, REACH, CAPS, Confidential Advocacy, Student Involvement, Fraternity and Sorority Life, and the OPHD Prevention and Education team.  Please join me in thanking all those involved for their hard work. These events are open to all.

Join our campus and community partners in kicking off Sexual Assault Awareness Month

Tuesday, April 7, 12:15 p.m. | Wear Teal Day - Campus Photo
Wear teal to symbolize your support for sexual assault awareness. Join us at 12:15 in Seawolf Plaza for a campus photo to show your teal!

Tuesday, April 7, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. | Clothesline Project - Lucy Statue
The Clothesline Project started in 1990 as a visual modality to raise awareness about sexual assault and violence, as well as show support for survivors of sexual violence.

April 13 - April 17, | RAINN Week with Alpha Sigma Phi - Seawolf Plaza
Stop by the Resource Tabling to bring awareness and join in on April 14th for the RAINN Day of Action 

Tuesday, April 14, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. | Clothesline Project - Lucy Statue
The Clothesline Project started in 1990 as a visual modality to raise awareness about sexual assault and violence, as well as show support for survivors of sexual violence.

Tuesday, April 21, 6 p.m. | RealTalk with the Peer Ambassadors - Consent - Beaujolais Meeting Room
Stop by for some real conversations with your peers about consent.

Monday, April 27, 6 p.m. | Impact Bay Area Empowerment 101 - Cooperage
This program introduces participants to the spectrum of self-defense, starting with intuition, all the way up to physical skills. Participants practice using their self-defense voice, verbal boundary setting with strangers and peers and two physical strikes.

Wednesday, April 29, 6 p.m. | SAAM Themed Game Night - Beaujolais Meeting Room
Join your peers and test your knowledge. Food and fun included!

Thursday, April 30, 6 p.m. | Take Back the Night - the HUB
A night of support for survivors and allies to raise awareness surrounding sexual assault, domestic violence, and rape culture affecting all genders and sexual orientations.

As a reminder, if you or someone you know has been impacted by sexual assault, there are resources both on and off campus that are available to you.

Wednesday, April 22, 11 a.m. – Noon | Collaborative Conflict Navigation for Employees
This interactive primer will equip you with practical tools to address interpersonal communication challenges directly and respectfully, helping you navigate disagreements with colleagues before they escalate.

Wednesday, May 13, 1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. | Building Resilience, Engagement and Community for Employees
Practical tools for managing stress, preventing burnout, and building personal and team resilience. Included will be techniques to stay calm, focused, and effective while contributing to a healthier, more connected workplace.

Discover how restorative environments reduce stress, support connection, and restore focus. Learn how to apply the C.A.R.E. principles — Compassion, Advocacy, Responsibility, and Empowerment — to foster supportive campus spaces.

Thursday, April 23, 11 a.m. – Noon | Communication Lab: Review & Reflection
A reflective session to review key communication tools and their impact on interpersonal engagement. Participants will share insights and consider how to carry these practices forward.
