As the new semester begins, we're excited to welcome you to a new community lounge on the second floor of Salazar Hall - a space for students, faculty, and staff to gather, connect, collaborate, hang, or simply take a break during the day.
The lounge is open and available to enjoy now, but the space is still coming to life. Over the coming weeks, you’ll see it continue to evolve as we add furnishings, vending machines, and other touches to make the space more welcoming and useful for our campus community.
This project is part of Sonoma State's Vibrancy & Visibility Initiative and responds to something we've heard from students and employees alike: a desire for more informal spaces on campus where people can simply be together.
And since this space is for our community, we need your help with something important ...
We're inviting students, faculty, and staff to stop by, experience the lounge, and share ideas for what we might call this new community space. Your inspiration might come from Sonoma State, our campus or region, your own experience or journey at SSU, or the sense of community and belonging we hope this space fosters. Creative ideas are encouraged, and we'd especially love to hear the story or inspiration behind your suggestion.
Please use this link to share your ideas no later than September 30. Once submissions close, the suggestions will be shared with Associated Students leadership, who will recommend a name. That recommendation will be shared with the Campus Planning and University Space Advisory Committee for review before going to President Spagna for final approval.
In the meantime, the doors are open! Stop by Salazar 2012, grab a seat, meet up with a classmate or colleague, and make yourself at home!
