A Message from the President — Leadership Team Update
Monday, April 20, 2026, 4:59pmDear Campus Community,
As we continue to collectively reimagine Sonoma State University and address ongoing challenges, I want to keep you updated about the university’s leadership team. Periods of transition and uncertainty understandably raise questions, and I want to assure you that we are prioritizing leadership continuity and stability.
To that end, I am pleased to announce that Dr. Stacey Bosick’s exemplary service as Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs has been extended through June 2027. Additionally, Dr. Ed Mills will be rejoining SSU as Interim Vice President for Strategic Enrollment Management as Paul Edwards prepares for his upcoming retirement. As most of you know, Ed served as SSU Vice President for SEM from August 2023 until July 2025 and has since supported systemwide enrollment efforts across the CSU, including serving as Interim Chief Enrollment Officer at California State University San Marcos. He will continue in that capacity while also supporting Sonoma State in this interim role.
I want to emphasize that these are deliberate, strategic decisions, and do not signal a delay in full-fledged recruitment for these positions. Rather, this approach creates space to thoughtfully prepare for national searches aligned with typical recruitment cycles while allowing time to resolve athletics and academic program decisions, among other critical issues. The goal is to strengthen Sonoma State’s institutional positioning and increase the likelihood of securing long-term leaders for these roles.
Both Ed and Stacey bring deep knowledge of our institution and the work that is already underway, which will allow our momentum to continue without interruption.
My profound thanks and appreciation to Paul, who joined the university in October 2024 and has been a tremendous asset, deploying new processes, procedures, and personnel within his department in a focused effort to enhance enrollment and recruit across a broad range of prospective students. He has been especially successful in expanding the university’s guaranteed admissions partnerships, which now include more than a dozen high schools and junior colleges in the North Bay and beyond.
Please join me in thanking Paul Edwards, congratulating Stacey Bosick, and welcoming back Ed Mills.
