I am excited to share several campus life projects underway, with additional enhancements rolling out beginning in Fall 2026 and beyond. These enhancements will introduce new gathering spaces, expanded recreational opportunities, and interactive features designed to enrich the student experience, strengthen our campus community, and recruit new students to Sonoma State.
These projects are supported by a dedicated, one-time Bridge to the Future funding allocation from the Chancellor’s Office. This funding allows the university to invest in improvements that enhance student life and student engagement. It is separate from and does not reduce resources supporting other important initiatives such as the expansion of nursing, the Career Center, data science, environmental science, and exploring NCAA Division II athletics.
Below are highlights of the projects you will begin to see across campus:
Revitalizing Seawolf Plaza – Curated music and interactive lighting brings new energy to Seawolf Plaza, expanding opportunities for evening programming and creating a more welcoming campus gathering space.
Gardens at the Rec – An outdoor recreation and wellness area between Campus Recreation and Darwin Hall featuring workout equipment, an Olympic-size sand volleyball court, climbing boulders, slacklines, cornhole, and seating designed for relaxation and connection.
Keys on the Plaza – A welcoming seating area in Seawolf Plaza with charging stations and a playable outdoor piano, creating a space to gather, study, recharge, and share music.
Video Gaming Room – A new interactive gaming space in the Recreation Center with large-screen displays, modern consoles, and a library of games for casual and competitive play.
Esports Lounge Sports – A new dedicated space to host competitive gaming for PC games, competitions, tournaments, and events.
The HUB Center Expansion – Located on the first floor of the Schulz Information Center, this expansion will create additional dedicated belonging, community resource spaces while supporting expanded programming.
Vibrancy and Visibility Initiative – Strategic enhancements intended to transform physical, social, and experiential spaces throughout campus, creating a more lively, welcoming, and engaging environment for the Sonoma State community.
Together with other efforts to refresh gathering spaces and strengthen Seawolf spirit and energy across campus, these projects are part of a broader initiative to cultivate a vibrant and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
We are encouraged by the enthusiasm many of you have already expressed and we’re glad to hear that these new spaces resonate with you. They are for you, our campus community!
We will continue to share updates as these projects come online. In the meantime, please feel free to reach out with questions to [email protected].
