Facilities Management would like to notify the campus of a planned power outage on Tuesday, November 11, as part of the Solar Array construction project. This project will enable the campus to produce up to 4 MW of sustainable solar electricity to meet the university’s current needs, support ongoing sustainability initiatives, and reduce the risk of unplanned outages in the future.
Anticipated schedule and impacts
- 3 a.m.- 9 a.m.: There will be rolling outages across campus as power is switched from the normal power supply to generator power. Each location is expected to be without power for about one hour.
- 2 p.m.-6 p.m.: There will be rolling outages across campus as power is switched from generator power back to the normal power supply. Each location is expected to be without power for about one hour.
Additional details
- Student Center: A dedicated generator will support the Student Center and The Kitchens so they can maintain operations on November 11.
- Residential buildings: Generators will be provided to all residential buildings so residents will experience minimal disruption during the electrical work.
- Academic/Campus Buildings: Buildings with permanent generators for emergency power will be online during this scheduled outage: UPD, Student Health Center, Stevenson, Darwin, Schulz, Central Plant, and Corp Yard. Facilities staff will be onsite to verify all systems are functioning as designed.
Facilities Management advises anyone using a desktop computer not connected to an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) to save their work before these outages.
