SSU Recital Series Showcases Music Faculty

February 10, 2016

Sonoma State University trumpet instructor Dave Len Scott dons his most comfortable shoes when he plays John Coltrane's iconic "Giant Steps" with pianist Ken Cook in Schroeder Hall at Sonoma State's Green Music Center Feb. 25 at 7:30 p.m. Scott's performance is part of the university's faculty recital series, which runs Feb. 21 through April 3.

Scott, who studied trumpet with Armando Ghitalla of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, first fell in love with jazz during junior high from his band director Louis Smith, a jazz trumpeter active in New York City in the 50s. Founder and leader of TRUMPETSUPERGROUP and the Dave Len Scott Jazz Quartet, Scott has also performed with the Honolulu, Napa and Santa Rosa symphonies. Joining him will be trumpeter Daniel Gianola-Norris and the SSU Faculty Brass Quintet.

The series of chamber music, jazz, original and avant-garde works also includes the Navarro Trio; a faculty composers concert featuring the faculty jazz ensemble; music for voice and chamber ensemble; Northern Indian classical music; and guest performers from outside the university.
