Sonoma State University’s annual Service and Internship Fair is expected to bring over 50 nonprofit and government organizations to recruit and interact with students on Aug. 30. The fair provides community organizations the opportunity to get students involved with its work while also giving students a chance to explore meaningful internships that hold the chance of employment after graduation.
Numerous environmental and governmental agencies, elder support services and children's after-school programs will be tabeling during the event alongside many other organizations. The American Red Cross, KRCB Public Media and the North Bay Alliance for Professional Women are just a few of the opportunities that students can interact with.
Close to 1,000 students, faculty and staff are expected to be a part of the event. Caroline Bañuelos, community partnerships coordinator at Sonoma State, encourages students, especially freshman, to use these opportunities to engage with their community to ensure they are making the most of their education.
“All students have an opportunity to learn what is available to them in the community either through a service-learning class or an internship,” said Bañuelos. “ Community engagement can inspire students to contribute to the health and well-being of the world at-large; by being civically engaged as well as preparing to be the leaders of the future.”
The fair will be held on Aug. 30 from 11:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Salazar Plaza. "Curiosity and interest are great things to bring," said Bañuelos. "If a student is looking to make a connection for a specific class they should make every effort to come to the fair and talk to as many organizations that may fit what they need for that class or project."
