The University Art Gallery at Sonoma State University presents 2026 BFA exhibition

ROHNERT PARK, CALIF. — The University Art Gallery at Sonoma State University presents the BFA Exhibition 2026, on view April 23 through May 23, 2026. This annual exhibition showcases the work of the university’s graduating Bachelor of Fine Arts cohort and represents the culmination of their studio practice.

This year’s exhibition features five artists: Ellie Bertling (painting), Tess Hernandez (printmaking), Maxine Grace Jones (painting), Camila Nava Lopez (printmaking), and Grace Peterson (photography). Each artist presents a cohesive body of work developed through intensive study and exploration.

The BFA is a rigorous, studio-focused degree offered by SSU’s Art Department, requiring an additional year of advanced coursework in studio practice, art history, and theory. Often pursued by students preparing for graduate study or professional careers, the program culminates in this capstone exhibition, which is presented in a professional gallery setting.

The exhibition reflects a collaborative process shaped by faculty mentorship and gallery production. The BFA Seminar, led by lecturer Jenny Harp, supports students in developing and refining their work for public presentation. Realization of the exhibition is carried out by the University Art Gallery team, with coordination and installation support from Leigh McTaggart and fabrication and installation by Aimee Graham and Jeremiah Flynn, alongside the contributions of gallery assistants and interns.

An opening reception will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 23 at the University Art Gallery. The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.
