Juried student art exhibition opens Nov. 13
University Art Gallery at Sonoma State University is pleased to announce its annual Juried Student Exhibition, which opens on Thursday, November 13 with a public reception from 4 to 6 p.m.and will be on view through Saturday, December 13.
The work in the exhibition will be selected by two distinguished art professionals who bring expertise and inspiration to the assignment. SSU alumnae Kara L. de Lambert, curator at Imagery Estate Winery and art consultant at Lynae Arts, and Jennifer Shada, artist and associate professor of art at Santa Rosa Junior College, will also deliver a talk to student exhibition entrants in which they will share insights from their professional careers and their perspectives on contemporary art that they apply in their role as jurors.
The Juried Student Exhibition features original artwork by current SSU students in a variety of media, including painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking, drawing, digital and mixed media. Submissions are open to students across all majors and reflect both the breadth of courses offered in the art studio program at Sonoma State, as well as the students’ own individual creative expression.
The jurors have deep ties to SSU and its art programs. de Lambert earned a B.A. in art history with a minor in arts management in 2012, and Shada completed her B.F.A. at Sonoma State in 2011. Both have served as guest lecturers in the B.F.A. Portfolio Practices class.
The University Art Gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The Gallery will be closed November 24-29 in observance of Thanksgiving. Admission is free; parking rates apply. For more information, please call (707) 664-2295.
