Sonoma State University and the City of Rohnert Park are partnering to host the Second Annual Juneteenth Luncheon: Celebrating Freedom and Honoring Progress, Wednesday, June 19, 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Rohnert Park Community Center. All Sonoma State employees and students working and living on campus are invited.

Juneteenth commemorates the freedom of enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas in 1865, which came two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Come hear from SSU Alumna Kirstyne Lange, President of the Santa Rosa-Sonoma County Branch of the NAACP, briefly speak on the significance of Juneteenth and its importance for the Black community in Sonoma County.

Two individuals distinguished for their community impact will be honored at the event: SSU retired staff member Andre Bailey and local business owner Marilyn Hutcheson.

Admission to the Juneteenth event is free, but advanced registration is required at https://bit.ly/rpjuneteenth24. Free onsite childcare (including lunch) for children ages 3-10 years is available by registration only
