On Friday, July 26, Sonoma State’s Center for Teaching & Educational Technology (CTET) hosted about 60 people at the daylong Summer 2024 NorCal Teaching Center Meetup. The event was started by the UC Berkeley Center for Teaching & Learning in 2023 and was supported this year by the CSU Chancellor’s Office.

“It’s a ‘birds of a feather’ opportunity for people in teaching to share ideas on effective programming and how to work with faculty in meeting their goals,” said Justin Lipp, CTET Director.

“It’s hard to keep up with innovations in teaching and learning on your own,” said John Lynch, Assistant Director of CTET. “Coming together provides a great opportunity to share insights and get support for our challenges, especially for smaller schools that can’t invest in this area.”

Presenters from Sonoma State, Stanford, University of the Pacific, UC Merced, UC Berkeley, Cal Poly Humboldt, UC Santa Cruz, and UCLA addressed a range of topics – from using ChatGPT to support accessibility, to AI in course design, to models for assessing student learning and the impact of faculty development programs.
