Women's Volleyball Snag NCAA Tournament Bid

November 21, 2017

For the ninth time in the last 10 seasons, the Sonoma State University women's volleyball team has qualified for the NCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Championship Tournament.  The Seawolves, who went 20-8 in the regular season, earned the No. 8 seed in the West Regional and will face top-seed and the No. 1 ranked team in the nation, California Baptist, on Nov. 30 at 7:30 p.m. in Riverside. California Baptist will serve as the host of the West Regional scheduled for Nov. 30th through Dec. 2nd.

Sonoma State, led by 16th-year head coach Bear Grassl, narrowly missed an appearance in last year's NCAA tournament after qualifying for eight consecutive NCAA tournaments from 2008 to 2015.  The Seawolves captured the CCAA North Division title this season, but were eliminated in the CCAA quarterfinals last weekend by Cal State L.A

The winner of the West Regional tournament will advance to the National Quarterfinals on Dec. 7-9 at UWF Field House in Pensacola, Florida.  The University of West Florida and Pensacola Sports will serve as the hosts of the 'Elite Eight'.
