Sonoma State University sports update, September 1-6. Women's Volleyball ends tournament with two wins; men's soccer fights for a pair of draws; women's soccer loses a match and settles for a draw in another; women's track and field finishes fourth at invitational.

Seawolves End San Marcos Tournament With Pair of Wins
Sonoma State finished their weekend at Cal State San Marcos Cougar Classic Tournament 2-1 by defeating the Johnson and Wales University Wildcats in three sets and the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks in four sets. Seawolves Kelsey McIntire, Rachel Andrews and Courtney Seda were selected to the All-Tournament team.

Sonoma Stopped By Westmont College In Season Opener
Kelsey McIntire recorded a career-high 15 kills, but the No. 24 Sonoma State volleyball team dropped two sets after leading 2-1 to lose, 3-2, to Westmont College on September 2 at the Sports Center in San Marcos.

MEN'S SOCCER

Sonoma State Fight To Scoreless Draw 
The Sonoma State men's soccer team welcomed Western Washington to the Seawolf Soccer Field on September 3 for a non-conference match up, and the two squads played to a scoreless draw. It was the second straight tie for the Seawolves to open the 2016 season.

Sonoma Settles For Draw in Season Opener 
Armando Coronel scored the first goal of the season after a corner kick in the 30th minute, but the Sonoma State men's soccer team settled for a 1-1 draw with No. 11 Seattle Pacific to open the 2016 campaign on September 1 at the Seawolf Soccer Field in Rohnert Park.

WOMEN'S SOCCER

Seawolves Stunned By Central Washington University 
The Sonoma State women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss to visiting Central Washington on September 3 at the Seawolf Soccer Field. Despite holding a favorable advantage in shots, 16-5, No. 24 as Sonoma State drops to 0-1-1 to start the 2016 season.

No. 24 Seawolves, No. 3 Vikings Play to Scoreless Draw 
The No. 24 Sonoma State women's soccer team forced No. 3 Western Washington into a scoreless draw September 1 at the Seawolf Soccer Field to open the 2016 regular season campaign. The Seawolves were outshot 15-10 in the match, including a 13-7 margin after halftime, but SSU goalkeeper Kristen Spear held the game in check.

WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD

Sonoma State Places Fourth at Argo Invitational

Led by the speed of Analicia Garcia, the Sonoma State women's cross country team got its season underway with a fourth place finish out of seven teams at the Notre Dame de Namur University Argo Invitational on September 3 at Crystal Springs Course in Belmont. Garcia, running in her first collegiate cross country meet, placed second overall with a time of 19:36.5 on the five kilometer course.
