New Social Science Dean

Dr. John Wingard has been selected as Dean of the School of Social Sciences at Sonoma State University.

"John was chosen for this position after a thorough national search," said Andrew Rogerson, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs at Sonoma State University. "I am delighted he has agreed to continue to lead this dynamic School as the new dean. I look forward to working with dean Wingard through this important transitional period for the university, and beyond."

Wingard has been with the Department of Anthropology and Linguistics within the School for 13 years and has taught as a professor and served as chair of the department. He has been interim dean of the School of Social Sciences at Sonoma State since July 1, 2013.

Wingard has an M.S. in anthropology (University of Oregon), an M.S. in agricultural economics (Pennsylvania State) and a doctoral degree in anthropology from Pennsylvania State University. He joined Sonoma State after five years as a faculty member at the University of Memphis. His appointment as Dean is effective January 2016.
