Rohnert Park, CA — Campus Recreation is opening an outdoor workout space located outside the building in the Seawolf Plaza. This is a space reserved for SSU students only and will require a reservation to participate. All participants will be required to keep 10 feet of distance between other participants.

The outdoor space is tentatively scheduled to open on March 1, 2021, following CDC, Sonoma County, and Sonoma State University guidelines. Once open, the proposed dates and times are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. during the spring 2021 semester. Equipment will include cycling bikes, rowing machines, dumbbells (not to exceed 20 lbs), and much more!

When asked why the creation of this particular space was so important, Campus Recreation Director, Shelbi Long stated, “We wanted to get back in person and we want to do it safely so we came up with a proposal and shared it with the University. We know the impact that being remote has had on students and their mental health and wellbeing and by coming up with this space, we hope it will provide a great outlet for our SSU students. It’s been a hard year for a lot of people and to have a sense of community in this space will benefit so many students.”

Students will be expected to make a reservation at Engage@SSU and complete a wellness screening before arriving on campus. Long shares, “We will be following all CDC and campus guidelines including social distancing, facial coverings, and sanitizing equipment. We will have 10 students at a time working out in their own respective workout space. There will be contactless check-in and all equipment will be sanitized after usage. We want our students and staff to feel safe in this environment and we have worked hard to accomplish this.”
